Harlow Town Park (Local)

Dave Norman, Organiser

Thanks to all the competitors who came along today - there were a lot of favourable comments about the venue, the courses & the map, and the weather was very kind.

A big thank you to everyone who helped put on today’s event - I’m lucky to have such a great team.

There were a few challenges on the way - not least the need to move the event centre, re-plan the courses away from the bandstand area, and change the Start/Finish times - all with less than four weeks to go!

Thanks to Harlow Council for permission to run the event, and a big shout out to Tom Smith, Town Park Manager, for all his help and assistance in re-jigging the event.

Ray Curtis, Planner

It was the first time for many years that I’ve planned any orienteering courses. Thanks to some guidance from Tony Maycraft I hope I succeeded in producing some interesting and even challenging courses for Harlow Town Park. Tony’s inclusion of an urban area to the west of the park gave the distance required for the Blue course and was well received.

We had to change the location of the finish as a few weeks before the event Harlow Council decided to stage a music afternoon in the park, the stage being on the site of the last control and the audience area on the finish. So, apologies for the walk from the finish to download and then back again to the car park.

Thanks to all CHIGs who helped on the day, especially putting out and collecting controls.

Finally, thanks to BML printers who have produced the first orienteering map for us.
