Thank you for coming to our event, and for all the positive comments about the courses. It was great to see so many newcomers, and we were very lucky with the weather!
Please do draw your routes in Routegadget. You can see all the courses there, and see which routes others took. It also really helps the course planner!
Our next event is the Michael Brandon Mitre, on Sunday 6 December in Epping NW. This is a bigger and more challenging area so we have planned 13 courses altogether, including Black, Brown and Red. There is something for everyone - newcomers, improvers, experienced and very experienced. Registration will open soon but in the meantime put this date on your calendar, and check out the detailed information here.
Ray Curtis, Organiser
It was good to see so many familiar faces on the day and a good turnout on the Blue and Green courses. I hope you were able to run your preferred course as both blue and green courses reached their maximum numbers. We have to guess numbers around 10 days in advance for the printers and at the time there were only around 25 entries, out of 111 total entries. So the moral from the story is not to leave your entry till the last minute.
I have a good memory of around a dozen queuing up for the green course at the start and perhaps 20 for the blue course. All waiting patiently for their starts. Us orienteers are a polite lot.
It was good to see over 20 INDs taking part. Hopefully you had a positive experience and we look forward to seeing you at our Mitre event on Sunday 6th December. We will be offering free Club membership for newcomers who enter and then run at the Mitre. There are 20 new membership units available, and to qualify you must not have been a member of British Orienteering in any of the previous four calendar years. Check our website for details nearer the time.

Planning my first colour-coded forest event was very satisfying, and I would highly recommend anyone who has been orienteering for a while give it a try! The recce trips were a great exercise in orienteering skills, and give you a deep and unique feel for an area! This particular area's compared and fairly consistent geography was both a help and hindrance in planning. Hitting the technical difficulty standards for Green and Blue was a challenge, but I hope everyone found a few legs that tested their skills!
It was a real team effort. First and foremost I want to thank Tony Maycraft for the mapping and a lot of wise guidance and thorough feedback while planning. I am also deeply grateful to Ray Curtis and Ray Weekes for the taking such good care of the physical and technological logistics. Last but certainly not least, thanks to Francis Hutchinson (DFOK) for his generous and essential help with setup on the day from the break of dawn.
